Cape Verde Midfielder Extends Arouca Stay

Cape Verde international Marco Soares has penned a one-year contract extension with Portuguese outfit FC Arouca.

Cape Verde international Marco Soares has penned a one-year contract extension with Portuguese outfit FC Arouca.

The latest deal brings to an end speculation concerning the future of the veteran defensive midfielder, whose initial contract with Arouca was about to expire.

“It’s with great honour and pleasure that I have committed my future to this club, and, I am very happy with this opportunity. It’s been a lot of hard work and dedication,” Soares told the club’s Facebook page about his new deal with the club.

Rumours had surfaced earlier that Soares was on the verge of leaving the club to join their rivals CS Maritimo, but the midfielder always maintained his contract at Arouca is still valid and urged people to ignore hearsay.

Speculation that Soares will cross the line to join city rivals had been going on for a long time, especially when he was heard saying he would like to play alongside Maritimo’s midfielder Jonas Fabio China.

Soares has also played for CD Feirense in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and turned out for the national team the Blue Sharks.

Arouca have also extended the contract of Brazilian custodian Victor Braga and forward Pedro Moreira.
