Platinum Midfielder’s Move To Maritzburg United In Jeopardy

Ralph Kawondera’s move to South Africa Premier Soccer League side Maritzburg United is close but is being held back due to COVID-19 outbreak that originated in Wuhan, China.

Martizburg are reported to have agreed to sign the midfielder form Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League giants FC Platinum. However, has now been thrown into doubt after the Absa Premiership was suspended indefinitely because of the coronavirus crisis.

As things stand, the South Africa Premier Soccer League are committed to finishing the season even if it means playing games through the summer and beyond. But unless the South Africa Football Association (SAFA) opens the transfer window before the end of the season, the Zimbabwean international will have to remain at FC Platinum.

“I’m afraid with the pandemic that we are facing at the moment. The deal might be affected because no one is aware when it will end,” said Kawondera told Zimbabwean publication H-Metro.

“Of course, we are talking and waiting for things to go back to normal but you know that uncertainty; that you don’t know when this will end.

Kawondera is currently training at home with Platinum, unlikely to be playing anytime soon as the coronavirus pandemic has seen Zimbabwe Premier League action suspended indefinitely.

“As a professional footballer even if we are on lockdown I have to work on my own because I know what is coming,” he added.

“We were given guidelines to follow which are helping us a lot.”

Kawondera has certainly impressed the club with his attitude and aptitude since making the switch from Triangle in January this year as a free agent.

The attacking midfielder had a great season arguably one of the best in his career and was among the 11 Soccer Star of the Year finalists.
