Arsenal Keen On French-Born Congolese Defender

Arsenal have been linked with a move for young French-born Congolese central defender Axel Disasi.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for young French-born Congolese central defender Axel Disasi.

The 22-year-old, who currently plies his trade for French Ligue 1 side Reims, has scored one goal in 32 appearances in the current campaign.

According to L’Equipe, the Gunners scouts have been watching him since early January and have been in contact with his handlers.

The Paris FC youth academy product is valued at £15 million, and his contract with the French Ligue 1 club Reims runs until June 2021.

Disasi is considered as the pillar behind Reims’ strong defence as the club has conceded the least amount of goals in French Ligue 1, letting in just 21 goals in 28 league matches.

Norwich City and Canaries are also said to be monitoring his progress together with a couple of other European clubs.

Canaries have made contact with Reims to discuss terms for Disasi ahead of the summer transfer market.

Reims were earlier reluctant to lose the 21-year-old in midseason and are likely to open talks so as to retain him for two more seasons.

The former France U-20 international, who stands at around 6ft 2ins tall, was pre-selected for DR Congo national team in March for 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
