Shame As Another Walkover Handed In Kenyan Premier League

Kenyan Premier League on Wednesday witnessed another walkover as Chemelil Sugar failed to show up for their league match against KCB at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The first walkover of the side came last month when they failed to show up for their game against Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa due to technicalities.

Chemelil Sugar officials had failed to attend the pre-match meeting and come kick-off time, the team was not anywhere near the match venue.

The centre-referee waited for the visitors at Machakos Stadium for half-an-hour before awarding KCB the game on a 2-0 basis.

When reached for comment, Chemelil interim head coach Charles Odera expressed fears that his side could dish out more of these walkovers if the owner don’t intervene in time.

This comes as the financial crunch continues hitting hard Kenyan clubs after the league sponsor pulled out.

The KPL is currently without a title sponsor and broadcast partner and due to the current economic situation in the country, they have not been able to attract corporate sponsorship.

Already, there are reports suggesting another sugar-belt side Sony FC are set to miss their fixture against Zoo FC in Kericho after the club failed to cater for the player’s travelling expenses.

This will be a third walkover issued by the 2006 Kenya Premier League champions after they failed to play AFC Leopards and Tusker.
