CAF Set To Host Stadium and Safety Workshop In Egypt

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to host a Stadium and Safety workshop in Egypt from 14 to 16 October.

The workshop will include National Security Officers from all its member associations.

According to a statement on the CAF portal, the workshop aims to equip National Security Officers with the skills, expertise and knowledge of international best practices in stadium safety and security.

The workshop will also purpose to build on the already solid safety and security foundations that were laid at CAF when it established the first-ever Safety and Security Department headed by Dr Christian Emeruwa, in February 2018.

The participants will take part in extensive discussions on ways to secure games and guarantee the safety of the players, officials and fans during games.

In recent years, safety at African football stadia has been a concern for authorities, with several high-profile incidents witnessed across the continent.

The most recent case happened in September 2018 where five people died following a stampede at a stadium in Luanda, Angola.

Seven people were also injured during the incident, which took place at the Estadio 11 de Novembre. The venue was hosting the first leg of the African Champions League quarter-final tie between Luanda’s Primeiro de Agosto and TP Mazembe of DR Congo.
