Sanko Says No to Guinea Call-up

Ibrahima Sory Sankhon may have to face sanctions from FIFA for refusing to honor a call-up to Guinea Conakry’s game against the Central African Republic.

The 23-year-old is one of an array of players summoned for national team duties by gaffer Paul Put but has decided against coming.

“It is his decision. He told me he is not ready for the game which is a shame for him and everyone. We will see after you know the behavior of players. It is important to prepare mentally but if you’re not then it’s useless playing,” Belgium-born Put said.

Hours following the coach’s briefing, the St-Truident player took to his social media handle attributing his failure to show up to “personal reasons.”

Paul Put is understood to be displeased over the player’s action amid reports in Conakry that Sankhon could be reported to FIFA for possible punitive measures.

The Elephants of Guinea have already booked a ticket to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cairo having topped group H on eleven points.

Put had hoped to test Sory for the tie with the Central African Republic next weekend.
