Ivorian Top Scorer in Norway Renews Contract With Relegation-threatened Club

Ivory Coast-born Franck Boli has dramatically opted to remain at Norway’s Stabæk, signing a three-year deal despite looming relegation.

The news comes after the 25-year-old had been tipped to exit at the conclusion of the ongoing season with title-chasing Rosenborg BK reported to be in the front running for the striker’s signature.

The Norwegian Premier League leading scorer was particularly coy about answering questions regarding his future last Sunday, leaving the club wary over securing a replacement.

Negotiations over an improved deal for Franck had long been tabled but Boli delayed inking the dotted lines as uncertainty hovered over the future of his manager.

However, the wait came to an end this week following a positive twist in the talks leading to the Ivorian agreeing to a contract extension on condition Herning Berg, his coach, is retained.

The new deal, running until the summer of 2021, makes the goal-getter the side’s highest earner.

Stabæk is fighting to stay up the Scandinavian nation’s Premier League, seating precariously second from bottom in the standings with a return of twenty-five (25) points in twenty-eight (28) games.

“I am grateful for all this club has done for me. Stabæk was there when I needed it most when I was injured and needed a club. No one will sign a long-term player, but Stabæk brought me home. I am forever grateful and this is my way of paying back,” Boli said at his signing.
