2023 AFCON: Namibia Secure Historic Victory over Tunisia

Deon Hotto, on Tuesday, January 16, made history with the Brave Warriors by scoring the game-winning goal that guaranteed Namibia’s first-ever AFCON triumph.

In the opening Group E match of Korhogo against Tunisia, Hotto scored the game’s only goal in the 88th minute with a strong header from a cross by Bethuel Muzeu. Nambia won 1-0.

Namibia outperformed Tunisia in terms of goal attempts and shots on goal, even though they had the majority of possession.

The hero Hotto could have had even more memorable moments because a slight offside call in added time cost him a second goal.

Since making their debut in 1998, Namibia’s previous attempts have only resulted in two draws and seven losses. But this unexpected victory has altered Group E’s dynamics in addition to rewriting Namibia’s football history.

Mali defeated South Africa 2-0 in the group’s second match.

Nambia will face South Africa in their next match, and Tunisia will face Mali. Both matches are scheduled for Sunday, January 10.
