Zesco Suffer Defeat Away in Tunisia

Zambia Super League champions Zesco United suffered their first defeat in the CAF Champions League group stages after losing by two goals to one against Etoile du Sahel  away in Tunisia.

The 2016 semi-finalists went into the match on the back of a draw at home and needed three points to put themselves well on the way to progression. United could have gone to the break with a comfortable lead but missed a number of clear cut chances while on the other end Jacob Banda’s heroics kept them in the match.

Sahel seemed to have had an effective team talk during the break as they went up barely a minute after the restart through Alaya Brigui. The Tunisian’s doubled their advantage ten minutes later through Amr Marei.

Zesco United had Jacob Banda to thank for the score remaining at two nil as he made some incredible saves.  In-form striker Lazarus Kambole pulled one back for Zesco in the dying minutes but it was a little bit too late as Sahel managed a two one win to go top of group D.

Mbabane Swallows are also on four points after they beat Deportivo de Augusto by a lone goal on Tuesday. Zesco will now face Augusto as they look for redemption.
