Zanaco Battle To A Goalless Draw Against Nkwazi

Zanaco and Nkwanzi lacked killer instinct in their Zambia Super League clash on Sunday as they played out to a goalless draw.

The Bankers took control of the match from the first whistle, but they were not allowed to create many clear-cut opportunities by the organized Nkwanzi defence.

The first chance fell for Roger Kola, who found himself with space on the left, but his shot went wide in the eighth minute.

Not to be outdone, Chitiya Mususu also tried his luck with a shot only on this occasion it went harmlessly over the visitor’s goal.

Kola continued to pry at the Nkwanzi defence around the 25th minute. His first shot was blocked by Pride Mwansa before his second was caught by Davy Kaumbwa in goal.

The visitors had two decent chances 10 minutes before the break- Christopher Zulu’s shot was saved by Sebastian Mwansa and Jeff Banda’s attempt went wide of goal after a Nelson Mwila free-kick.

Zanaco almost took the lead against the run of play when Kevin Owusu fired in a long-range shot, but Nkwanzi goalkeeper Kaumbwa pulled off a one-handed save to tip the ball over for a corner. The resulting corner almost produced a goal but Kaumbwa was alert enough to block Moussa Souleymanou’s header- the ball bounced around the box a few times before Chishimba Changala cleared the danger.

However, the second half was much of the same as both sides failed to create clear-cut chances in front of goal.

Mwansa Nsofwa should’ve opened the scoring in the 70th minute when he attacked in the box from the right- he took a powerful shot that struck Kaumbwa in the face when a deft chip would’ve been the better option.

Boyd Musonda’s first chance came in the 76th minute but his looped header sailed past the top corner.

With Zanaco keeping all players behind the ball, it was very difficult for Nkwanzi to feed Emmanuel Chabula and Edward Mwamba and in the end, a goalless draw was a fair result.
