Zambia Midfielder Enock Mwepu Joins Brighton And Hove Albion

Zambia international midfielder Enock Mwepu has signed a four-year deal with English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old’s contract with Austria first division side RB Salzburg was due to expire in 2024 but he opted to make a big move to Falmer Stadium.

He becomes the first major signing for the Seagulls ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, with the deal estimated to have cost around £6 million.

“We’re delighted to be able to welcome Enock to the club and are looking forward to working with him,” revealed Brighton boss Graham Potter in an interview with the club website.

“He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age, including Champions League and international football.

“He’s primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop.

“He will add competition to our existing options in that area of the squad going into the new season.”

Before heading to Austria in 2017, the midfielder enjoyed a spell at Zambian first division side Kafue Celtics, where he starred by scoring seven goals in 29 appearances.

He was outstanding in as Zambia won Under-20 Africa Cup in 2017 as they went on to reach the quarter-finals of the U-20 World Cup in South Korea.

He made 81 league appearances over his four years at the Red Bull Arena, scoring 11 goals and laying on nine assists.
