Zamalek coach Patrice Carteron heaped praise on his charges for their 3-1 win home win over Esperance de Tunis.

The White Knights earned the victory thanks to wonderful strikes from Mohamed Ounajem, Achraf Bencharki and a last-minute penalty converted by Mahmoud Alaa.

Speaking after the game, Carteron was thrilled at the result as Zamalek utterly dominated their opponents and are now one step closer to reaching the semi-finals.

“Our players were heroes after recovering from going one goal down,” the Frenchman told beIN Sports in a pitch-side interview.

“I think the goal we conceded made us change our game plan and be bolder.”

The Frenchman added there is still much work to be done before his side can be assured of a place in the semi-finals despite the Friday night’s win.

“I know that Esperance are a big team. They are the African champions for two consecutive years, that’s why we need to work hard and play a big game there,” he added.

“Starting from tomorrow, we will start our preparations for the second leg game, because it will be a big and exceptional match.”

Zamalek will be away to Tunisian champions Esperance in the second-leg clash in Rades on March 6.
