Botswana Premier League outfit Jwaneng Galaxy are set to win their first Botswana Premier League title if, as expected, Botswana Football Association (BFA) decides to end the season.
BFA president Maclean Letshwiti is reported to have hinted that the league will be brought to an end next week on the advice of the Medical Committee, which established that it would cost more than P300 million for the teams to return to action.
The federation is expected to announce the much-anticipated decision to declare the season complete on Tuesday as the cost of the championship is beyond the federation.
At the time of the suspension of football activities, Jwaneng Galaxy were leading the sixteen team BTC sponsored Premiership log with 41 points and Township Rollers were second with 40 points.
Ducor Sports understands that BFA has communicated to the premiership participating clubs with a minority of the teams asking for the season to be considered null and void.
The BTC Premiership was left with 10 rounds to conclude, while only four matchdays were outstanding for First Division sides.
This new development is music to the ears of First Division sides Masitaoka and Sua Flamingoes who occupied the top two slots at the mid-season.
The two will earn automatic promotion to the BTC Premiership 2020-2021 season while Mogoditshane Fighters and Nico United will feature in the play-offs to decide the third team to be promoted.
Sources at BFA have further disclosed the federation is expected forfeit the Botswana slot to the CAF Confederation Cup as that are yet to find a solution to the fate of the Orange FA Cup.
Botswana have always produced a participant for the Confederation Cup through the Orange FA Cup, which was entering into the quarter-final phase before it was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
