Unstoppable Mohamed Salah Equals Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie’s Records

Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah equaled scoring records held by Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie after scoring a late winner against a tricky Crystal Palace side yesterday.

The 25-year-old put up a late magic show at the Selhurst Park completing an 84th minute comeback as Liverpool came from a goal down to secure second half win. Salah controlled a Robertson cross neatly before prodding calmly beyond Wayne Hennessey to give the Reds a well deserved 2-1 lead.

The “Egyptian Messi” who has now bagged 29 goals in the Premier League became just the second African player to achieve the feat.

Didier Drogba set the record in 2009-2010 after winning the PL title, the FA Cup and Community Shield. With six games to go, despite not winning as many accolades, Salah may end up setting a new record as the highest scoring African in a single season.

The winning strike also made him the third player, (after Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin Van Persie) to score in 21 different games. He has been in sublime form since moving from AS Roma and netting 37 goals across all competitions in his maiden season.

In the seasons the former Manchester United forwards set the records, Ronaldo hit the target 31 times in 34 appearances while Van Perssie converted 26 in 28 games meaning Salah will have to score once more in the remaining six games to break their records.

After hosting league Leader Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, Liverpool will travel to Everton and Salah will be hoping to emulate his first leg performance against the toffees next weekend.
