Uganda Cranes Shot Stopper Dennis Onyango Named 10th Best Keeper in the World

The Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been named among the top ten 2016 goalkeepers in the world according to the latest released International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) ranking.

The Cranes assistant captain guided his country’s mostly home based squad in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers to end a 38-year-absence. He also led his current club Mamelodi Sundowners to the South African PSL, Telekom Knockout and Champions League title while winning best goal keeper in each mentioned tournament.

Onyango is rated ahead of Arsenal’s Peter Cech, Inter Milano’s Samir Handanovic and Barcelona’s Andre Ter Stegen.

The first time nominee also made the final three shortlist for best African Player based in Africa and is favorite for Uganda Sports Personality of the year. He becomes the only Ugandan and East African goal Keeper to be ranked amongst the best 10 in the World.
