TPL: Yanga Three Points Away From League Title

Yanga just requires three points in the remaining four matches to lift the 2021 /2022 Tanzania Mainland Premier League(TPL) title.

The Citizens have gone 13 points clear on top of the summit in the latest standings released by TPL following their 1-1 draw against Biashara United.

A win against Coastal Union their next match will take the Jangwani-based side to 66 points and will have vastly superior goal difference that will be enough to hand the Nabi Nesreddine’s coaches side their first league title in four years.

The maximum points that Simba Sports Club can pick from their remaining matches are 66 but their will have to score an average of five goals per match without conceding, which analysts consider impossible.

Fiston Mayele fired Yanga ahead before Collins Opare secured a draw an important draw for relegation-threatened Biashara United.

Yanga set the tone of the game in the early stages with combination play but they lacked the end product in the final third.

Biashara were more direct and threatening on counter-attacks, as in the 25th minute Lenny Kissu found a pocket of space after a good turn in the box but blazed his effort wide.

The Citizens gained the attacking momentum, as Feisal Salum came close to breaking the deadlock with a free header at the back post just before the half-time break that sailed wide.

Yanga continued to have the momentum going forward but they were not doing enough to test goalkeeper Daniel Mgore.

The Citizens broke the in the 75th minute when Mayele connected a through pass before sending loop past Mgore.

Biashara continued to wait for chances on transitions, and the found an equalizer three minutes later when Collins Mpare finished a beautiful cross,1-1.

The game stretched from end to end after that as Mgore denied Zawadi Mauya from close-range at the near post.

Mayele had a chance to seal the game for Yanga five minutes before time after a cross by Djuma Shaban at the back post but he guided his header over the crossbar.
