Toni Silva Certain Djurtus Will Make It Past Group Stages

Guinea-Bissau international Toni Silva has assured his nation that the Djurtus will weather the storm to qualify from their dreaded Group F of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Guinea-Bissau international Toni Silva has assured his nation that the Djurtus will weather the storm to qualify from their dreaded Group F of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Silva, who turns for Egyptian side Al Ittihad, hinged his submission on the pedigree of the players predicted to make up the Guinea-Bissau final squad for the tournament, set to kick off on June 21 in Egypt.

“I am very confident that we can make it past group stages and that is our goal as Guineans. It is not by chance that we are in Africa Cup of Nations finals for the second time in a row. This demonstrates that we are a great team,” said Silva as translated from Portuguese.

The 25-year-old winger named Benin as Guinea-Bissau’s biggest threat in the group which also consists five-time Africa champions Cameroon and Ghana.

“In my opinion, the selection of Benin is the most complicated for us than the rest of the teams in Group. This because we do not have idea of how they play compared to Cameroon and Ghana, whom we have met on several occasions,” Silva added.

Guinea Bissau will be making their second appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations and they currently sit position 118 in Fifa rankings.

They will play Cameroon in the Group F opening game of the tournament and will know avoiding defeat will be a huge boost for their showing in Egypt.

Galaxy of Djurtus stars who played in the 2019 Afcon qualifier most come from Portugal, Spain, Poland, France, Finland, Italy and even South Korea.
