Title Holders Al Ahly Qualify For Final Four

Al Ahly and Raja Casablanca drew 1-1 in the 2021/2022 CAF Champions League quarter-final second-leg match at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca,Morocco on Friday night.

The win sees the Egyptian club advance by 3-2 aggregate across the two matches and set up a meeting with Algeria’s ES Setif in the semifinals, set to be played in early May.

Raja made a good start to the clash and went ahead on the fifth minute courtesy of Fabrice Ngoma header after capping a move he started following a mistake from Aliou Dieng.

Al Ahly were presented with a chance to level the scores when they were awarded a penalty in the 17th minute but Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul saw his penalty saved by Anas Zniti.

The hosts had a decent chance to extend their lead in the 30th minute, but Mohamed Zrida blasted Abdeljalil’s cross over the bar.

Al Ahly equalizer’s arrival didn’t last long as they expected, as the ever-threatening Abdel-Moneim leveled matters on the 44th minute later from Ali Maaloul’s corner.

Abdel-Moneim seemed to be Raja’s main threat for most of the encounter and he nearly doubled his tally in the 53rd when he forced Zniti’s into a fine save.

Mohsine Moutaouali was in a good position to have a shot at goal in the 63rd minute , but he sent his venomous effort well wide of the goal.

Mohamed El-Shenawy came to Al Ahly’s rescue  in the 79th minute, as the shot-stopper produced a good save to keep out Mohamed Al Makaazi’s strike from distance.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the final stages of the second half, with Hamdi Fathi being denied by Zniti, while Hamid Ahadad missed a chance of his won.
