Thomas Partey To Join Black Stars Camp On Thursday

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will join up with the rest of the squad for Saturday’s international friendly against Ivory Coast.

The player met Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor on the weekend and was excused from joining the residential camp due to personal issues.

The 27-year-old is among the squad named by coach Akonnor for Ghana’s international friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.

Various reports on Monday indicated that Partey had been dismissed from camp after reporting late and failing to give a tangible explanation.

However, GFA has out to deny the rumors and stated that Partey will link up with the rest of the squad on Thursday after their return from Morocco, where they will be facing the Atlas Lions on Tuesday.

“Thomas travelled to Cape Coast on Thursday to meet Coach Charles Akonnor over some personal issues. After the meeting which lasted for about an hour, the Coach excused him from the trip to Morocco – and asked him to report to camp for the second game against Ivory Coast,” reads part of GFA statement.

“The Arsenal midfielder will therefore team up with the rest of the squad on Thursday when the team returns from Morocco.”

Apart from Partey, other players set to miss the Morocco clash include Tariqe Fosu-Henry, Kamaldeen Suleyman, Kamal Sowah, Joseph Paintsil, Mubarak Wakaso, Richard Ofori and Frank Acheampong.

The Black Stars will take on Morocco on Tuesday, June 8 in Rabat, before playing against the Ivory Coast on June 12 in Cape Coast.
