The Disagreement Between Club Brugge’s Coach and Diagne Continues

The war between Phillipe Clement and Mbaye Diagne seems far from over after the former appeared to snub questions over their relationship.

The war between Phillipe Clement and Mbaye Diagne seems far from over after the former appeared to snub questions over their relationship.

Diagne went from a marquee signing to a squad outcast after he refused to hand over penalty duties during their Champions League defeat to PSG last September.

On loan from Galatasary, the goal-getter insisted on taking the spot-kick and eventually lost what could have been an equaliser, earning the wrath of Clement.

Since then, the gaffer relegated Mbaye to the periphery, preferring others in attack as the situation compounds up for the West African in the face of Club Brugge’s smooth race for the title without requiring his services.

In the heat of the moment, Galatasary bluffed they would report the matter to FIFA to force Clement into softening his stance – a thing the gaffer appears in no mood to do.

Realising he’s trapped on the basis he has starred for both clubs and cannot afford to play for another all in a single term due to European club football rules, Diagne offered his apologies.

Knowing he has his eyes on securing a place in the squad in Senegal’s coming qualifier and won’t be called should he move to China on loan, the 28-year-old opted to offer his apologies to Phillipe in a move to end the wrangling.

The coach, however, seems determined not to renege from his position and snubbed questions regarding his relationship with the player who’s been ostracised from his teammates.

“Diagne trains individually. I prefer to focus on the other players,” he said, in lead to their Saturday’s game versus a lowly Waasland-Beveren.
