Tanzanian Giants Courting Rayon Sports Defender

Tanzania top-tier clubs Young Africans have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Rayon Sports defender Eric Rutanga.

Tanzania top-tier club Young Africans have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Rayon Sports defender Eric Rutanga.

According to various media reports, the Tanzanian Premier League giants are currently in advanced discussions with their Rwandese counterparts, Rayon, over signing the Amavubi star.

Azam and Mtibwa Sugar have been credited with an interest with the highly rated left back in the January transfer widow but Ducor Sports understands the player and his intermediary have had no contact with the two clubs.

Under contract with Rayon Sports until June 30, 2021, Rutanga has not ruled out a departure from the Rwanda Premier League club in near future, saying anything can happen in football.

“I am happy here. And, I still have a contract to honour,” he said.

Rutanga is one of the most famous products of the Rwanda U-17 national team that participated in the 2011 FIFA U17 World Cup in Mexico.

The 27-year-old remains one of few players who have grown from one national team level to another, from U17, to U20 to U23 and finally to the senior team. He earned his first national team call-up up the senior national team in 2013.

Since joining Rayon from arch-rivals APR in 2016, he won two league titles and played critical role as the Blues reached quarter-finals of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup – the first time by any Rwandan team.
