Swiss Coach to Leave Despite Securing Zamalek CAF Title

Swiss-born gaffer Christian Gross’ contract won’t be renewed despite guiding Egypt’s Zamalek to this year’s CAF Confederation Cup title.

Swiss-born gaffer Christian Gross’ contract won’t be renewed despite guiding Egypt’s Zamalek to this year’s CAF Confederation Cup title.

The 64-year-old’s deal is scheduled to elapse at the end of June after just ten months at Zamalek’s managerial helm.

Controversial club president Mortada Mansour had stormed into the locker room at halftime in the Total Confederation Cup final telling players not to listen to the coach.

“I was at the locker room at halftime telling players not to listen to Gross and listen to my instructions. The time of Christian Gross is over, his contract will not be renewed. Zamalek will win the Premier League and Egyptian Cup,” Mortada, slapped with two international bans this season alone, said in the aftermath of the duel.

The White Knights, as the Egyptians are dubbed, saw off Morocco’s RS Berkane on penalties to clinch their first Confederation Cup title gong since 2003.
