Super Eagles Put Ten Past Sao Tome

Nigeria secured a convincing 10-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe in their second Group A match at the Stade Adrar in Agadir, Morocco on Monday afternoon.

The Super Eagles dominated throughout, netting three goals in the first-half and seven in the second stanza to go top of the Group A log with six points from two matches.

Nigeria opened up the game with a high press in the opening exchanges and went ahead on the ninth minute courtesy of Victor Osimhen free header.

Jose Peserio’s men remained on the front foot and Moses Simon doubled the lead on the 28th minute with a sliding finish after a cut from Victor Osimhen.

The West Africans added their third goal on the 43rd minute with Terem Moffi getting his name on the scoresheet  with a lovely side-foot volley.

Sao Tome and Principe, who were largely chasing shadows, came close to pulling a goal back on the stroke of halftime through Aldair Santos’ deflected free-kick that flashed past the top corner.

Osimhen went on to complete his brace with a firm header into the top corner unmarked in the box after a cut-back by Alex Iwobi three minutes into second stanza.

Oghenekaro Etebo fired a powerful low delivery to make it 5-0 before Terem Moffi netted his second goal of the afternoon on the hour mark.

Three minutes later, Ademola Lookman, who had missed several open chances, finally found the back of the net with a beautiful volley.

Sao Tome started to play a good passing game but they conceded the eighth goal 65th minute when Osimhen completed a beautiful finish from Emmanuel Dennis’ low cross.

Osimhen increased his tally to four goals six minutes from time with a low strike at the near post after he was teed up by second half substitute Ahmed Musa.

Emmanuel Dennis placed the result beyond reasonable doubt at the stoppage time when he converted from spot after being brought down by Sao Tome defender Eba Viegas.
