Southampton Inquiring About Mainz Striker Abass Issah

English Premier League side Southampton have enquired about the availability of Mainz forward Abbas Issah.

English Premier League side Southampton have enquired about the availability of Mainz forward Abbas Issah.

HITC reports that the player, who is valued at €1.75m, is keen to work with Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, as he fits the club’s “long-term thinking”.

The youngster has become one of the most sought after strikers having scored eight goals in just 22 games before the season was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side is now ready to push ahead with plans to sign Issah in the upcoming transfer window, amid growing fears the youngster’s price-tag will continue to increase as some of Europe’s leading clubs begin to circle.

Southampton are ready to approach the Bundesliga outfit with a deal that would see Issah signed in June before being loaned back to Utrecht for the remainder of the season.

Hasenhuttl is said to be keen on adding a striker to his side to compliment the effort of veteran forward Danny Ings next season.

The 21-year-old Issah joined Mainz in August 2018 on a five-year deal from Slovenian giants NK Olimpija.

He was later loaned to Dutch top-flight side Utrecht for one season after having a troubling first year at Mainz where he made only one appearance in the 2018/19 German Bundesliga season

The Ghanaian international was earlier linked with a move to several clubs including BSC Young Boys, Columbus Crew and French club Dijon.
