South Sudan Coach Cyprian Ashu Heaps Praise On Prayers For Uganda Win

South Sudan national team head coach Cyprian Besong Ashu has praised his players for their unyielding bravery in their 1-0 win over Uganda.

South Sudan national team head coach Cyprian Besong Ashu has praised his players for their unyielding bravery in their 1-0 win over Uganda.

Tito Okello converted from a penalty to give the Bright Stars victory which slowed down Uganda’s march to their third consecutive Africa Cup of Nations.

Both teams finished the match with 10 men, with Cranes’s Khalid Aucho being sent off at the half-hour mark with a straight red card while the Bright Stars had substitute Saad Musa sent off for a second yellow card in the closing stages of the encounter.

South Sudan have now recovered from the pedestrian show they put up at home last Thursday against the Cranes.

Ashu acknowledged his players were determined to punch above their weights and pursue victory to its bitter end.

“I’m proud of the boys. We were a bit unlucky in the first leg but if you look at both matches, we were clearly the better side,” an excited Ashu said.

“My players fought really hard and never complained even when I pushed them to do extra work. This victory belongs to them and I am extremely proud of them.”

South Sudan next match will be against Malawi who held Burkina Faso to a goalless draw in the other Group B clash played in Lilongwe.
