Newly appointed South Sudan national team head coach Ashu Cyprian Besong has promised ‘total football’ for the Bright Stars after he was unveiled on Friday.

The 49-year-old has sealed a two-year-deal renewable mandate by the South Sudan Football Association.

The former Cameroon U-20 coach has been tasked to take the conflict-torn East African nation to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Besong told media in Juba that his new assignment is to build a strong team from the grassroots that will compete alongside other Africa countries in the continental football showpiece.

“I have done a lot of work when it comes to professional and youth development and I think I’m among the best, and I know what it takes to produce young players,” Besong said.

“If we educate the players and the coaches, then the future is bright.”

The Bright Stars are currently in camp to prepare for upcoming 2020 African Nations Championship qualifier against Burundi on 26 July 2019 in the capital Bujumbura.

South Sudan failed to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after losing all qualifier games in Group C.
