South African Football Player Recovering In Hospital After Being Stabbed

TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi is currently in hospital after being stabbed during a hijacking incident in Soweto on Saturday evening.

The Rockets confirmed on Monday that Buthelezi has been declared stable while his brother who they were traveling in the same car is said to be in critical condition.

They said Buthelezi’s family has asked for privacy while they are trying to deal with this unforeseen and unfortunate circumstance.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper will make full recovery and that South African police are investigating the incident.

“TS Galaxy FC is appealing to the masses to afford Buthelezi and his family privacy during these trying times, “ the club added in a statement.

“The club will not be commenting further on the matter until further notice.”

Buthelezi joined TS Galaxy in July 2020 after ending his relationship with another South African side Jomo Cosmos by mutual agreement.

The young goalkeeper is yet to concede a goal at the highest level having risen to prominence at the start of this year when he made his PSL debut in the Nedbank Cup 0-1 win against Kaizer Chiefs.

He went on to keep two consecutive clean sheets in the South Africa Premier Soccer League matches against Swallows and Amazulu.
