Six Top Coaches Jostle for Botswana Job

As Botswana continue to search for a permanent coach for the Zebras, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has received about six applications from notable coaches jostling to get the prime job.

As Botswana continue to search for a permanent coach for the Zebras, the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has received about six applications from notable coaches jostling to get the prime job.

After the exit of David Bright, several coaches have filed applications with some promising to take Botswana football to a greater level.

Ducor Sports has confirmed six coaches whose applications are at the BFA secretariat include former Zebras coach Veselin Jelusic who has also tutored Angola national team.

Englishman Peter Butler has also indicated interest in the job. He coached Botswana between 2014-2017.

He was also the manager of South Africa Premier Soccer League side Platinum Stars and has also an impressive record of handling teams in three countries, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Ex-Township Rollers award-winning coach Nikola Kavazovic, who is currently in-charge of Free State Stars is also among the coaches has also declared interest in the job.

Brazilian mentor Leonardo Neiva, former Jwaneng Galaxy man Zlatko Krmpotic and Antonio Flores who once mentored Uganda are equally interested in coming to Botswana to tinker the Zebras.

It is still unclear when the Botswana Football Association (BFA) will name the new Zebra coach but National Executive Committee meeting will take place in a month’s time where candidates will be shortlisted.

David Bright contract was terminated in February after failing to qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bright, who succeeded Butler, found the going tough after failing to go past the quarter-finals of the regional Cosafa Cup in 2018, before their barren run in the Nations Cup qualifiers.

The new manager’s first competitive game will be in June against South Africa and his main task will be to guide Botswana to the Cosafa Cup title in this year’s competition set to be held in Durban.
