Senegal’s Gana Gueye: We are Happy to be in the Quarter-finals

Everton’s playmaker Idrissa Gana Geuye has voiced delight at Senegal reaching the quarter-finals.

Everton’s playmaker Idrissa Gana Geuye has voiced delight at Senegal reaching the quarter-finals.

The Taranga Lions are scheduled to face Benin after advancing past a tough Ugandan side.

Liverpool’s forward Sadio Mane’s lone goal proved the ultimate match-winner.

The 27-year-old was put through on goal by a striker Mbaye Niang’s pass which he pummeled with a left-footed effort past Mamelodi Sundowns Onyango standing between the sticks for Uganda.

And Gueye, voted man of the match, couldn’t have been happier after going past the last-16.

“We are happy to be in the quarterfinals. The game was complicated against a tough opponent but we were focused to win,” he said.

Benin is Senegal’s next adversary and Gana is already looking forward to it.

“It’s still a long way to the title and what we think of now is the next match against Benin,” he says.

The Everton midfield powerhouse is a key man for gaffer Aliou Cisse and will be expected to make the lineup when they face off with The Squirrels of Benin.
