Senegalese Legend Henri Camara has hung up his soccer boots at the age of 41 after an eventful nomadic career that span all-over Europe.

Born in Senegal to a Guinean father, Camara opted to play for Teranga Lions despite being eligible to play for either of the nations. He made his international debut for Senegal in 1999 and went on to become the country’s all-time top scorer and the most capped player with 31 goals in 99 appearances.

He participated in five African Cup of Nations (scoring in three) and was part of the 2002 Senegalese team that shocked the then defending champions France in Korea/Japan in the opening match.

They lit up the world with historic performances and became the first African team to reach the last eight at a World Cup. He was one of the team’s stand-out performers and scored two goals, one an extra-time golden goal against Sweden.

At club level, Camara started his career at ASC Diaraf in 1998 before moving to Strasbourg in France a year later. The rather nomadic career saw him play for the likes of Celtic, Wolverhampton, Sheffield United, Wigan, West Ham and Stoke City between 2003 and 2010 in Britain before he moved on to Greece.

He spent his final seven years in Greece where he played for top-flight clubs like Panetolikos, Atromitos, and Lonikos.

The Senegalese fan favorite spent his final season with third tier Athens club Fostiras FC after stints with 18 clubs across France, Scotland, Switzerland, and England.
