Taifa Stars captain Mbwana Samatta’s impending high profile move to English Premier League side Aston Villa will be confirmed next week.

Taifa Stars captain Mbwana Samatta’s impending high profile move to English Premier League side Aston Villa will be confirmed next week.

Ducor Sports, after speaking to Tanzanian international’s family members in Dar es Salaam, can confirm that, indeed, the Genk forward has agreed to a deal to move to Villa Park this January transfer window.

“This transfer is almost done. Samatta will travel from Brussels on Monday or Tuesday for a medical and then sign a three-year deal.”

Various media outlets have reported that an estimated €10 million (£8.54 million) fee has been agreed between Genk and Aston Villa after Sammtta turned down lucrative offers from clubs in the Middle-East.

Samatta’s new deal is said to be worth about double the weekly wage of $130,000 he has been earning at Genk for the last three weeks.

The 27-year-old striker has scored 76 goals and provided 20 assists in 191 games for Genk, and won the league title last season.

Samatta must secure a work permit to head to the UK and is set to become Villa’s third signing following the loan arrivals of Danny Drinkwater and Pepe Reina.
