Rwanda National League Transfer Window Officially Opens

Today marks the official opening of the Rwanda National League transfer window ahead of the 2020/21 season as clubs look to formally register new signings.

FERWAFA Deputy Spokesperson Jules Karangwa earlier confirmed that the domestic transfer window will run from April 15 until 29 April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The second wave of the global pandemic in the country meant the cancellation of the 2020/21 domestic season which had just reached it match day three.

As such, FERWAFA changed the format of the league and now the 16 top-flight teams have been split into four groups with teams playing each other as reported by KT Press.

After the group stage, the top eight teams will play a round-robin tournament with the top finisher winning the title.

The winner will also book a ticket to represent the nation in the continental Champions League while the runner-up will be granted a berth in Confederation Cup.

The bottom eight will also play another round-robin tournament to decide the final league standings.

Though several transfers have been confirmed already, clubs will now officially be able to register their new acquisitions for the new season

Dates for the start of next season are yet to be confirmed but rumours suggest the League is targeting to begin on May 1 and end on June 29.
