Rules Regarding Substitutions and Kick-off Times Revised for Champions League and Europa League

A fourth substitute rule has been introduced by UEFA which allows teams in both finals of Champions and Europa Leagues to introduce on top of the traditional three-substitute player, a fourth. But there is a catch – it has to be in extra-time!

The reason behind this is to give ‘coaches more flexibility regarding substitutes, and facilitate their squad management for the most important fixtures of the season’

The result of the new rules will see squads for finals increase to 23 players as compared to other games which remain at 18 players.

The kick-off times for the 2018/19 season have also been moved to 7pm and 8pm UK time.
