Rowem Williams Named Bafana Bafana Captain

South Africa coach Hugo Broos has appointed Rowen Williams as the new captain of the senior national soccer team, Bafana Bafana.

Rowen replaces Thulani Hlatshwayo who was dropped from the national team after leading the side for a record five years.

Percy Tau, who recently joined Al Ahly in the Egyptian Premier League, has been named as the deputy captain.

Rowen’s appointment followed a meeting with the technical bench after which approval and full backing was granted to the plans of the coach.

“First of all, I think Ronwen is a personality, he is a man who has experience. He is also a man who can communicate, which is very important, and on the other side you have Percy, who is a bit more quiet but has experience in several European teams and I think he has the respect of the locker room,” Broos said as per KickOff.Com.

Rowen has been one of the longest-serving Bafana players and having shown some leadership qualities as SuperSport FC skipper.

The Matsatsantsa goalkeeper officially leads a new look Bafana squad after captaining the side during recent international friendly against Uganda.

He will begin the tenure against Zimbabwe in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on September 3 in Harare and then followed up by the match against Ghana at FNB Stadium on September 6.

Meanwhile, Kiazer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo has earned a recall to the squad due to uncertainties on Mothiba and Siyanda Xulu who are yet to recover from injuries.
