Rohr Disappointed After Super Eagles’ Loss to Croatia

After falling to a 2-0 defeat by Croatia  Saturday night at the Kaliningrad Stadium in Russia, Nigeria national team head coach Gernot Rohr was a disappointed man.

The Super Eagles fell to Oghenekaro Etebo’s unfortunate own goal and Luka Modric’s penalty which handed Croatia the victory to go top of the group.

Speaking to the media after the match, Rohr said his team played well in the second stanza but the penalty that was awarded to the opponents disorganized his playing unit.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“We’re really disappointed we lost this game. Croatia were the better team. We could have come back into it in the second half after we started very well before the penalty against us,”[/perfectpullquote]

said Rohr.

The 64-year-old is however buoyed up that his Super Eagles will come out strongly in their next match against Iceland on Friday.

“We’re a young team, we’re learning and I hope in the next game against Iceland we will do much better.” Nigeria will need a win against Iceland and pray that Argentina, who are joint second on the table, lose to Croatia in their next game to stand a chance making it to the second round of the competition.
