Rio 2016: Uganda’s Jacob Araptany Eliminated From Steeplechase Final After Smashing Face Into the Hurdle

Jacob Araptany showed just how brutal a 3000-meter steeplechase could be.

A few days back, Uganda’s hope of getting its first medal was revamped when the middle distance runner Araptany qualified for the finals.

During the final, as racers were approaching a barrier, Araptany took a misstep and stumbled head first right into it, as runners jumped over him.

Araptany got back up, but unfortunately, he lost with a DNF.

Araptany had finished second in heat three behind Kenya’s Kipruto Conseslus with 8:21.52.

He began on a high, hitting the front in the first lap. He kept the top for the rest of the race, but Kenya’s Kipruto geared past him towards the finish line to win with 8:21.40.
