Ghana national team head coach Charles Akonnor earns a monthly salary of USD 20,000 equivalent to Ghs111, 000, Ducor Sports can reveal.

Ghana national team head coach Charles Akonnor earns a monthly salary of USD 20,000 equivalent to Ghs111, 000, Ducor Sports can reveal.

Besides, Ghana Football Association (GFA) provided him with a Toyota Land cruiser vehicle worth USD 84,000 which was delivered to the coach by the local football boss Kurt Okraku a few weeks after his appointment.

This was revealed by a top official in the federation who added that Akonnor has been provided with two airline tickets per year between Ghana and any holiday destination of his choice.

“Akonnor is on a salary of USD 20,000 every month. That is what he has been on since he signed his contract in January,” the source revealed.

Speculations have been rife about how much Akonnor takes home every month since he took charge of the Black Stars early this year.

Akonnor’s assistant David Duncan takes home USD 10,000 as his monthly salary with the other national team coaches taking between USD 5000 to USD 2000 per month.

Previous Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah earned a higher salary of USD 31,000 before being shown the door for unsatisfactory results.

However, Appiah is still demanding $175,000 in unpaid salary arrears and has already written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) requesting to be paid.

Previous GFA policy restricted salaries to only head coaches of the various national teams, while some of assistants and backroom staff being on allowances and bonuses as they were expected to have other jobs.
