Squirrels star Steve Mounie could leave Huddersfield Town this month with interests in his services reportedly mounting.

Squirrels star Steve Mounie could leave Huddersfield Town this month with interests in his services reportedly mounting.

Eurosport, as quoted by French Football News, is reporting that several French Ligue 1 clubs have inquired about his availability with Rennes now being among those lining up a deal to sign the Benin international.

Rennes was one of the first clubs believed to have expressed interest in the 24-year-old, but domestic rivals Riems and Nimes have now seemingly joined the race.

Despite mounting interest, the same report suggests it’s unlikely that Huddersfield will allow Mounie to go to any club before they get to sign a replacement first.

Huddersfield broke their transfer record when they signed Mounie in July 2017 for an undisclosed fee, reported to be £13 million.

The youngster has scored three times and has made four assists in 14 games in the English Championship this season.

Mounie has been capped 23 times by Benin but does not require a work permit as he has dual French nationality.
