Kenyan international Ayub Timbe is set to join English Championship side Reading on loan from Chinese side Beijing Renhe.

Kenyan international Ayub Timbe is set to join English Championship side Reading on loan from Chinese side Beijing Renhe.

Former Racing Genk winger joined Renhe from Lierse SK in a deal worth about £6m in February 2017.

Elements of the deal are still to be resolved but it is hoped they will be before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Some reports indicate the deal is expected to be until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

Last season, the winger scored two goals in 13 games the entire season; one game less than what he accumulated in the 2018 season.

He stayed on the bench without making a contribution in three games earning one yellow card in the entire season.

Timbe has previously also played for Belgian side Lierse before his transfer to Beijing Renhe. He also spent a loan deal at Chinese League One side, Heilongjiang FC.

The 27-year-old played in all the games for Harambee Stars in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations as the Sebastien Migne coached side exited the competition in the group stage.

Reading are presently 15th in the Championship log on 37 points, 18 points off leaders Leeds United.
