PSL: Mamelodi Sundowns Equals Kaizer Chiefs Record

Mamelodi Sundowns have equaled Kaizer Chiefs’ longest ever unbeaten run of 19 games after beating TTM FC 3-1 in a South Africa Premier Soccer League match played at Peter Makoba Stadium on Tuesday.

The Brazilians have equaled the record that was set by Chiefs, who put together 19 successive wins in domestic PSL competitions in the 2014/2015 season

Prior to Tuesday’s match, Sundowns have gone 18 League games since they last tasted defeat back in October last year when they were felled by Bloemfontein Celtic in Pretoria.

Actually, Sundowns are without defeat in 27 games in all competitions in domestic football and CAF Champions League.

Such has been the beauty of that unbeaten run for the Brazilians that they have won 12 and drawn seven, which equals 43 points taken out of a possible 57 from those 19 games.

With more than 10 games remaining, Sundowns appear capable of stretching that unbeaten run even further which prior to being broken by Chiefs five seasons ago was jointly held at 17 games by SuperSport United (12/9/09-12/12/09) and Orlando Pirates (6/8/04-22/1/05).

Chiefs, however, still hold the longest ever unbeaten sequence in the League (31 matches) – which stretched over two seasons (15/1/05-29/10/05).
