“Projectiles were Thrown at Us Causing Me Injury,” Wydad’s Ashraf Says

Achraf Dari claims players were pelted with projectiles by Tunisian fans, saying he sustained a foot injury as a result during his Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca’s defeat on Friday.

The 20-year-old defender was an unused substitute after getting booked in the first-leg but said he sustained an injury after opposition fans threw stones and projectiles towards the direction of the VIP section where unused players were seated.

“Projectiles were thrown at us causing me injury on the foot. We were exposed to a wild situation,” Achraf said.

Moroccan domestic league champions Wydad bit the dust to Esperance of Tunis in the finals of the African Cup which saw the latter retain the title after just 60 minutes of play.

Chaotic scenes marred the game culminating from Gambian referee Papa Gassama’s decision to disallow a Walid Al-Karti’s goal which could have been an equalizer after holders Esperance of Tunisia had led via a Belaili’s 41st minute effort.

The visiting Moroccans later matched out of the game over the arbiter’s refusal to refer to the Video Assistant Referee.

The Confederation of African Football are set to assess events surrounding yesterday’s game with a decision expected at least before the end of next week.
