Petro de Luanda Release Foreign Midfielder

Petro de Luanda midfielder Isaac Mensah has been released from his contract by mutual consent, the club has confirmed.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian international had not featured for Petro in last season and was left out of their African Champions League squad that played during the last season’s group stages.

“We wish Mensah well for the future,” Petro du Luanda said in a statement.

Mensah, who arrived from Hearts of Oak in 2018, had three months on his contract and had been seeking a USD 10,000 pay-off to end it early.

Petro du Luanda have not disclosed the terms of the termination agreement, and at same time announced they departure of Brazilian Maikon Leite.

Sporting de Cabinda had been keen to sign the winger during the January transfer window but were put off by his high wage demands, as were Santa Lita, who enquired about a loan deal.

During the 2020-21 campaign, Mensah made a total of nine appearances in the Girabola League, with five of the matches.

The Angolan outfit is also the home of another Ghanaian Inusah Musah who also moved to the club from Hearts of Oak before Mensah’s arrival.

Petro de Luanda finished second with 67 points in the just-ended Angola Girabola league and they will be representing the country in the upcoming African Champions League season.
