Patrick Aussems To Be Named AFC Leopards’ New Coach

Kenyan Premier League giants AFC Leopards are set to unveil former Black Leopards coach Patrick Aussems as their new mentor, Ducor Sports reports.

Aussems will take over the reins from Tomas Trucha who resigned from the position in December following threats on his life.

The Leopards executive committee has agreed terms with the Belgian coach, who will be installed as their in-charge on Friday, just two days before the Mashemeji Deby.

“ Patrick Aussems is already in Nairobi as we speak,” a source close to the club tells Ducor Sports.

“He is expected to become the new coach of AFC Leopards.”

Ducor Sports understands that Aussems will put pen to paper a two-year deal and will be assisted by former Kenyan international Antony Kimani.

Aussems has been without a club since November 2020 when he was sacked at South African side Black Leopards after a series of poor results.

The 55-year-old coach served as national Technical Director of the Benin Football Federation and national coach and guided the side to African Cup of Nations.

Aussems moved to AC Leopards Dolisie in Congo and the quit the club for Sudanese club giant Al-Hilal but did not last at the club as quit despite guiding the side to African Champions League following the league triumph without having conceded a goal and Super Cup.

In 2018, Aussems took Simba Sports Club of Tanzania’s coaching job where he famously was the architect of Mzimbazi Red’s run to the quarterfinals of the 2018-19 African Champions League.

As a defender in the 1980s and early 1990s Aussems’s clubs included Standard Liege and Gent in Belgium and Troyes.
