Patrice Edouard Ngaissona Replaced as UNIFFAC President

Former Central African Republic football chief Patrice Edouard Ngaissona has been replaced at the Union of Football Federations of Central Africa.

Former Central African Republic football chief Patrice Edouard Ngaissona has been replaced at the Union of Football Federations of Central Africa (UNIFFAC) by the president of the Equatorial Guinea Football Federation, Gastavo Ndong Edu Akumu.

Ngaissona had held the presidency of the central African region football governing body since June 2017 but has now been officially replaced after UNIFFAC held an election to choose his successor.

Gastavo was chosen unopposed just months after clinching the Equatorial Guinea FA Presidency from incumbent Adres Jorge Mbaino.

The elections were held on Monday during UNIFFAC’s Extraordinary Congress in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

It had become necessary to elect a new UNIFFAC president following the arrest of Ngaissona in December on suspicion of committing war crimes in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The ex-CAR FA boss was in January transferred to the International Criminal Court in The Hague where he faces war crimes charges.

Ngoissana was also sitting on the board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), a position that he controversially clinched during a CAF general assembly held in February 2018.

Meanwhile, UNIFFAC agreed to convene an executive committee meeting within two months where member countries are expected to appoint a new Secretary General, who will now have the title of executive director.
