Pagou Signs New Bamenda Deal

PWD Bamenda have continued to ensure they retain key members of their first team and have now confirmed the retention of head coach David Pagou.

Paguo is set to continue at Bamenda for another one season after penning a new contract until June 2021, the club has confirmed.

The 49-year-old former Abakwa Boys trainer joined Bamenda in September 2019 as a replacement for Augustine Tchuopo, when they risked the unthinkable prospect of being relegated to the second division after a poor run.

Pagou turned their fortunes around to help them to win their maiden domestic title following the cancellation of the 2019-20 season by the Cameroonian Football Federation.

“It is work that I started since last season, so it is just a matter of continuing with what we started. The players are progressing, so I started something that I want to continue,” the Buea-born gaffer told reporters shortly after signing the contract extension.

“That’s why we agree to continue with that challenge. The group is still young, so we can help them grow.”

The Abakwa Boys had finished in the bottom half of the league’s table the last term hence they sought to provide stability for the team by acquiring the services of Pagou.

With the needed support from the club’s board of directors, the former Canon de Yaounde gaffer strengthened the team’s squad, and with a couple of impressive results, they succeeded UMS de Loum’s as the Central African nation’s kings.

PWD  will represent Cameroon in the CAF Champions League next year with second-placed Coton Sports participating in the Confederation Cup.

They will be hoping to end the country’s 42-year wait as Union Douala was the last Cameroonian team to win the Champions League after defeating Ghana’s Heart of Oak in the 1979 final.
