Nyasa Big Bullets Keen to Land Malawian Youngster

TNM Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets are set to complete the signing of Malawi U-23 and Griffin Young Stars forward Peter Banda after the two clubs reached an agreement over his transfer from the den.

Banda had trails with the Bullets during the December-January transfer window and was believed to have been handed a contract by the club as well as Silver Strikers but he turned down the offers as he opted to complete his studies.

According to sources, Bullets administration director Albert Chigoga met the player at his rural home outside Lilongwe this week to try and convince the player, who is set to go for trials with German side Frankfurt Youth, to join the champs in the coming transfer window.

Malawi national team head coach Ronny van Geneugden recently recommended the player to first try Super League football saying it is his time to rub shoulders with the big boys.

“I think he is now mature and ready for the big stage. He needs to grow mentally and he can only do that by playing in the top league,” he said in an interview with The Nation.

Last year, Banda had unsuccessful trials at Club Brugge in Belgium, Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates in South Africa.

“One of the reasons Club Brugge couldn’t sign him was because he did not have experience playing top-level football,” added Geneugden.

In April this year, the player was reportedly invited by Kenyan giants Gor Mahia to be part of their team against in their match against England as a guest player.

However, the 18-year-old could not make it to the tour as he faced complications with obtaining all the official paperwork required at the time.

At the time of publishing, Young Stars owner, Griffin Saenda Junior, had yet to reply to Ducor Sports inquiries on Big Bullets’ reported interest in the player.
