Nominees For All CAF 2019 Awards Revealed

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed its preliminary shortlists of nominees for the 2019 African men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has revealed its preliminary shortlists of nominees for the 2019 African men’s and women’s Player of the Year awards.

The categories for the awards gala that will take place on the 7th of January in Hurghada, Egypt next year include African Player of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year among others.

25 names have been revealed for the men’s category, with nine of the nominees playing in the English Premier League.

Last year’s winner Mohammed Salah of Egypt has been named and is challenged by Liverpool team-mates Sadio Mane of Senegal and Guinea international Naby Keita.

Some of the other names on the Player of the Year list include 2015 winner Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon and Ghana’s Thomas Teye Partey.

In the women’s player category, the 2019 African Women Footballer of the Year Thembi Kgatlana makes the nominee list alongside 2016 African Women Footballer of the Year Asisat Oshoala.

The winners for the African Player of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year will be decided by CAF Technical & Development Committee, media experts, legends, coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, Coaches plus captains of the national teams of the 54 member associations.

The African football governing body has re-introduced Interclub Player of the Year Award and will be dedicated to honouring key actors in CAF’s club competitions.
