Nigerian Defender Micheal Kalu Joins Iraqi Side Samarra

Nigerian defender Michael Kalu has signed for Iraqi Premier League side Samarra Sports club on a one-year contract.

The 20-year-old centre back joins the club as a free agent after he failed to agree terms over a renewal before his contract expired at Djiboutian side Association Club Sportive de Hayableh.

He is expected to bring stability in the back four of the Reds for the newly promoted Iraqi Premier League side.

Kalu previously plied his trade for Somalia Premier League side Jazeera Sports Club and South Sudan Premier League outfit Wau Salaam FC.

During this stay at ACS Hayabled, he managed to get two goals under his belt in approximately 22 games played across all competitions.

“I am happy to be joining Samarra Sports Club. It has always been my dream to play overseas and finally, I have a chance to play for this great team. There are many good, experienced defenders at the club and I will have to fight for my place in the team. I am ready for the battle,” Kalu told Ducor Sports.

Samarra have lost their opening three Iraqi Premier League matches as they are in the process to adapting to life in the top division- as they were promoted via play-off.
