Morocco to Host African Champions League Final

Morocco will host the 2021/2022 African Champions League final on May 30, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The decision was taken on Monday following Senegalese Football Federation’s withdrawal of its bid.

The final will be played at Mohammed V Stadium despite Morocco having Wydad Casablanca in the last four of the competition

Wydad have a huge advantage going into second leg of Champions League after hammering Petro du Luanda 3-1 leg in Luanda last weekend.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly are the other candidate for the final as they walloped ES Setif 4-0 in the first leg and their management on Monday protested on Morocco winning the rights.

The maiden one-leg final was held in 2020 and was hosted by Egypt where Al-Ahly defeated their rivals Zamalek.

Morocco hosted the last season final where Al-Ahly defeated Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa.

CAF have also announced that there are discussions to revert to the old two-legged home and away final to determine the winner of the African Champions League, rather than the one-leg final.
