Morocco Out To Top Group C

Morocco will aim to top Group C at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations when they play Gabon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium on Tuesday, January 18, kick-off at 16h00 CAT.

Morocco come into the game sitting at the top of the pool with six points and have already qualified to the knockout stages of the competition.

The Atlas Lions have put in two strong showings at Cameroon 2021, first defeating Ghana 1-0  before walloping debutants Comoros 2-0.

This means that Morocco will be fighting to win or draw the match in order to win the Group C of the competition.

Morocco coach Vahid Halilhodzic acknowledges they will face a stiffer challenge in their next group game, but insists his players can be proud of what they have achieved already.

“We won and naturally we are happy, but we would have liked to do better. It was a difficult game. It would have been nice if we had created more goal-scoring opportunities,” the tactician said in his post-match interview.

“I believe we will be more efficient in the next game. I will tell my players to keep hold of the ball and create more chances.”

Gabon also made a winning start to their Afcon campaign after Aaron Boupendza wonderful volley against Comoros last Monday.

The Panthers then held Ghana to a 1-1 draw by Ghana on Friday and the team will need only a draw to secure advancement into the last 16, though claiming all three points and winning the group is their ultimate aim.

The other Group C match between Ghana and Comoros will be played simultaneously at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Yaoundé.

This will be the 18th meeting between the two countries, with  Gabon running out 3-1 victors in an international friendly played in October 2019.
